Our Forest

Over 50% of Bear Run Farm's 160 acres is a forest of beautiful hardwoods. Our farm takes its name from the stream that originates at our spring, flows through the Bear Run Nature Reserve and ultimately into the Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle. The forest here is full of magic. Tall sentinel trees loom high over the forest floor - tulip, red maple, beech, sugar maple, and black cherry - blowing hundreds of years of stories through the rustling leaves. Wildflowers like Trillium, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, and Lady Slippers throw splashes of color across a carpet of earth-brown leaves. And we have more than just bears out in these woods! Our cameras have captured bobcats, coyotes, lots of fox and many other awesome creatures. We don't just love to play in these woods - we consider it an important responsibility to protect and conserve the land for many more years to come. As such, conservation is an important part of our farm management plan. Follow us as we engage in various projects to maintain and enhance the incredible value this land offers all of us.
